The Gallery Eden Retreats

What an absolute treat for a loved-up couple this is – a characterful, romantic bolt-hole right in the centre of the small, historic town of Conwy, by the north Wales coastline. Words hardly do it justice, for it's a real passion project, an old converted stable that's now a unique, private studio space, featuring tons of original features and a healthy dash of quirkiness.

It's all-in-one living, so there's a small, cottage-style kitchen, which then leads out into a lounge-cum-bedroom with not one but two eye-popping surprises – a free-standing copper bath in the corner and a wood-burner in the old, arched fireplace. A fireplace, by the way, that's big enough to also accommodate a couple of chairs so you can get nice and cosy – there's a basket of firewood waiting for you on arrival. Other handsome features include the original slate-flagged flooring throughout, and oak panelling that sets off the exposed stonework. Oh, and don't worry, it's not just the bath – there's a separate, tiled bathroom too, with walk-in shower.

Every inch has been thought out, so while there isn't a huge amount of space, there are hideaway seating areas (with views of the town's historic castle) and all the amenities you'd expect, from wifi to fully equipped kitchen. Cushions, throws and original artwork add a homely touch; there are bath and shower products provided, as well as a welcome pack.

The town itself is a joy and you're bang in the historic centre, close to a great choice of shops, cafes and restaurants. There's also a brilliant sandy beach, Conwy Morfa, just a couple of miles away, with spectacular sunsets. This really would be the place for that special celebration or anniversary, with romance available inside and out at The Gallery.
