You couldn't be better placed for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park than at The Neuadd, a small group of converted farm buildings set in beautiful countryside with 360-degree mountain views. It’s ideally located for exploring this stunning part of Mid Wales. Guests need only walk through the flower meadow for access to mountain trails, riverside strolls, the old canal path or a wander into Crickhowell. This vibrant town and walking hub (host of the internationally renowned walking festival) is filled with cool independent shops, cafes and pubs. Little wonder then it was recently selected as the Best Place to Live in Wales by The Sunday Times.
Some of the cottages are converted from the property's large barn, which faces onto a central courtyard. They are all tastefully furnished and classically cottagey, with timber beams, wooden floors, and stone walls. Yet all come well equipped and have a contemporary feel, with good WiFi, Freeview TVs and fully-fitted kitchens. Dogs are also welcome in three of the five properties, and there's a quiet, adult-orientated vibe to the place. If you prefer B&B accommodation, there are three gorgeous B&B Suites also available on site.
Owners Julia and her husband Peter are a brilliant source of information on all aspects of the surrounding area – ask them about the best hiking trails, cycle routes, nature walks and spots for wild swimming. There's a large stock of maps and guides, including some your hosts have created themselves. They even provide a helpfully detailed ‘holiday planner’ in advance of your arrival, brimming with ideas for things to do in the area. Besides Crickhowell, foodie capital Abergavenny is also close by – you can cycle there off-road via the canal and disused railway.
