Mid Wales
The countryside of Mid Wales, riven with mountain passes and dotted with historic towns, is the perfect destination for a short break or week-long escape. Focused on the counties of Ceredigion and Powys, it's a largely rural region and a total delight. The western county of Ceredigion has a beautiful coastline that is often neglected in favour of its more famous neighbour – Pembrokeshire – and is all the better for it, while the inland Cambrian Mountains are a glorious wilderness that again is often overlooked in favour of Wales' more famous natural attractions. Powys meanwhile is extremely varied too, and packs in a lot of gorgeous natural scenery, from the drama of the Brecon Beacons in the south to the fringes of Snowdonia in the north. All of this makes a perfect backdrop for some beautifully situated country cottages, boutique hotels, cosy country inns and some spectacular glamping sites – one of the country's specialities.
