Charming safari lodges on a stunning smallholding in rural Ceredigion

A holiday with canvas and campfires involved may sound like a bit of a chore, but if you pick Canvas & Campfires –  with capital Cs –  you’ll find that it’s anything but. For this glamping site in a traditional Welsh valley, halfway between the Cambrian Mountains and the sea, promises the adventure of camping with none of the hassle. From the comfort of your luxury safari lodges, you can bask in the sights and sounds of the Great Outdoors, while soaking in a hot tub or dozing under a sheep's wool duvet on a Hypnos mattress in a comfy king-sized bed.

The accommodation here comes with an emphasis on space and comfort. So much so, in fact, that two of the five safari tents (Enfys and Dyffryn) have been designed with accessibility in mind. They are insulated, have wet rooms and wider, step-free access, which means everyone is welcome to enjoy what’s on offer at this tranquil spot.

Each safari tent sleeps up to six in two bedrooms plus a cupboard bed. There are wooden floors throughout, electricity, running water and a proper flushing loo. The living space is open plan and features a log-burning stove, a kitchenette with a fridge, a hob and cupboards that are properly stocked with pans and utensils – and if you do need anything else, there’s an onsite honesty shop for basics.

If you prefer the bricks and mortar option, there’s always Beudy Bach – a converted 18th-century cowshed overlooking the pond that’s now a cosy romantic bolthole for couples (complete with wood-fired hot tub). Whichever you choose, all the accommodation here is well-equipped, super-comfy, and perfectly blends a thoroughly outdoors experience with little touches of luxury. That includes the magic of a campfire under a starry night sky, breathtaking views across the valley, possibly a dip in a hot tub, collecting eggs from the resident hens, bat-spotting at dusk, and lots of fresh air to recharge your batteries.

The site is part of an 11-acre smallholding and you're welcome to join owners Ellie and Dan as they make their daily rounds of the farm. It’s all about the outdoors here, whether you stay onsite or head out to explore: the Ceredigion coast, the Cambrian Mountains and Brechfa Forest are just some of the dramatic landscapes close by. And for food and other diversions, Lampeter is less than 10 minutes’ drive, and the Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron only 20 minutes.

Facilities

Our Safari Tents
Each tent sleeps up to six guests and includes proper beds with quality bedding, a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, single ring gas hob, cooking equipment, kettle and cafetière, and a comfortable living area with a log burner for cooler evenings. Each tent has its own private bathroom with a hot shower, flushing toilet and basin. Outside you will find a covered decking area with seating, a firepit, picnic table and BBQ for relaxed evenings under the stars. Seren also has a private wood-fired hot tubs. The tents are off-grid in feel but have electricity, lighting, fridges and charging points.

Two of our safari tents (Enfys and Dyffryn) are accessible with roll in wet rooms, adapted kitchens, ramped access and parking close by.

The Little Cowshed
Our beautifully converted cowshed is perfect for couples. It offers a fully equipped kitchen, log burner, electric heating, comfortable living space, proper beds with quality linens and a private bathroom with shower and flushing toilet. It also has its own hot tub, outdoor seating area and firepit. The Cowshed provides a cosy year-round retreat with modern comforts in a rural setting.

Across the site guests can enjoy spacious grounds, big skies and peaceful countryside views. We have plenty of room for children to explore, wildlife to spot and dogs to roam. We provide thoughtful touches to make your stay easy and comfortable, and we are always on hand if needed while still respecting your privacy.

There is ample parking on site and slow EV charging is available by arrangement. While we do not have a restaurant or bar, we are close to wonderful local pubs, cafés and beaches, and we are always happy to share recommendations to help you make the most of your stay.

Suitable For

Canvas & Campfires is best suited to those looking to slow down and reconnect, whether that is couples seeking a peaceful escape, families wanting space for children to explore, or friends gathering for relaxed time together in nature. Our setting works especially well for guests who appreciate the outdoors, campfires, fresh air and starry skies, while still enjoying the comfort of proper beds and private bathrooms. We are happy to host group celebrations with sleeping for up to 32 on site.

We welcome well-behaved, and also slightly mischievous dogs,  we know they are part of the family and love the countryside just as much as we do.

One person in each party has to be over 18, but other than that there are no strict age restrictions, and we welcome families with children. As we are a rural smallholding with open water, firepits, farm animals and wildlife, we simply ask that children are supervised so everyone can enjoy the site safely and respectfully.

Nearby

One of the things we love most about being here is the variety on our doorstep. We are tucked away in peaceful Ceredigion countryside, yet just a short drive from some of West Wales’ most beautiful beaches. New Quay, Penbryn, Llangrannog and Aberporth are firm favourites for sandy walks, dolphin spotting and fish and chips by the sea.

For those who enjoy exploring on foot, the Ceredigion Coast Path offers spectacular cliff-top walks with incredible sea views, while inland you will find peaceful woodland trails, market towns and hidden valleys. The Hafod Estate is a firm favourite of ours for amazing walks and waterfalls. The university town of Aberystwyth is great for a traditional seaside day out, and pretty Georgian Aberaeron is perfect for harbour strolls and ice cream.

Closer to home, we love simple pleasures. A slow morning with a coffee overlooking the sheep in the fields, spotting red kites overhead, collecting egg from the chickens. Or heading out to collect some up local produce from farm shops. There is plenty to do if you want adventure, from kayaking and paddleboarding to cycling and wildlife boat trips, but many of our guests tell us their favourite moments are the quiet ones back at camp, around the fire under the stars.

Food & Drink

We are very lucky to have some wonderful places to eat and drink nearby, and we are always happy to share our latest favourites with guests.

For a the best fish and chips we recommend The Lime Crab in New Quay.  In Aberaeron, The Harbourmaster is perfect for something a little more special, known for its seasonal menus and waterside setting, Y Seler and the Hive in Aberaeron are also great and Angelato's is amazing for ice cream after a wander around the colourful harbour.

For cosy pub evenings, The Daffodil in Penrhiwllan and Y Talbot in Tregaron offers excellent, locally sourced food and a welcoming atmosphere.

There are also fantastic local farm shops, bakeries and delis in the area, so many of our guests enjoy Watson and Pratts in Lampeter and Aberaeron and Jones the butchers in College Street Lampeter and Y Bewcs a bakery also on College Street.

What an amazing place to stay

Dan & Ellie truly provide an outstanding level of service and a most incredible experience. We, being 2 adults & 3 kids (7, 11 & 13) stayed in Seren, I can't recommend it enough, even for a couple of days, but longer if you can. The safari style accommodation is superb. Comfortable beds, great little kitchenette with fridge, plenty of kitchen ware, teas, excellent fresh ground coffee for the cafetiere, spacious living area with comfy sofa, large unique table with benches and chairs, wood burner and so on. There is plenty of space and it has everything you need and lots of nice little touches, to make it special. The veranda is nice to sit quietly and take in the beautiful, relaxing, scenery, and there is plenty of wildlife, especially birds to observe easily. Watching the kites fly over and so close by is a treat. We had a BBQ on our first night using the fire pit, and of course we made smores with the marshmallows provided. We thoroughly enjoyed the wood fired hot tub, the night sky is beautiful with plenty of shooting stars to be seen. There are chickens roaming around, ducks at the pool and a visit to see the sheep and pigs should not be missed. The honesty shop is a great idea with plenty to offer. The location is ideal for outings along the coast, including Aberporth, this has a lovely beach, which is also dog friendly. New quay is a short drive to see the bottle-nosed dolphins. What makes Canvas and Campfires so special is the people. Dan and Ellie go above and beyond, not just the thorough introduction and personal run through of how everything works, lighting fires etc. They are really there for you, we had car troubles not just once but twice with entirely different issues. They were so so supportive and helpful. The fab lady who cleans the tents (sadly I have forgotten her name) is an absolute gem too. I cannot wait to go back again next year.

What a fantastic place!

A group of us stayed in one of the accessible safari tents (Enfys). The tent is west facing and provides great views of the sunset across the beautiful valley, in addition to it's location the tent is really well thought through and laid out the accessibility is excellent and includes a huge walk/wheel in wet room. The owners Dan and Ellie were pleasant, helpful and accommodating and the kids loved feeding the animals with them in the mornings. I can't recommend this place highly enough, get down there and enjoy a beautiful sunset and some of Dan and Ellie's great hospitality!

Beautiful and luxurious glamping experience with our family and friends

My family and I loved our stay at Canvas and Campfires. Dan and Ellie are excellent hosts who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and ensure we had everything we needed. The site is set in a wide open, tranquil space with beautiful views; but also easy access to a main(ish) road so that it was easy to head out and about and explore the surrounding area. The glamping tents are comprehensively and comfortably kitted out with plenty of space to cook, eat and relax (which was really helpful when the rain set in!) and each tent had its own outdoor table and cooking space. We went for the hot tub tent which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We also had a proper toilet and washbasin in our tent and it was an easy hop across the glamping field to our shower. Our friends opted for an accessible tent which was lovely and warm and had a shower room built in which was a brilliant (and unusual) option to have on a glamping site. Our kids (8 and 10 years old) particularly enjoyed Dan taking them to feed their animals every morning; the climbing tree; and the whole site feeling so secure that they could run off and play on their own whenever they wanted. We’d highly recommend Canvas & Campfires and hope we can return in the future.

An absolute gem!!

We stayed for a long weekend in Seren - a safari tent with a log fuelled hot tub (which was lovely) . On arrival we were greeted by Dan who is a wonderfully warm and friendly guy. The tent was well equipped with everything you could possibly need for the perfect glamping experience. The beds were comfy (the cubby hole bed was super cosy) and there are lots of warm fluffy blankets if you needed some extra warmth. The log burning stove made the tent cosy and warm at night. The location is beautiful and peaceful with loads of space for our dog Milo to run around and play (he loved it too!) There's even a little honesty shop where you can pick up some bacon, sausages and other little treats :) There is really nothing negative we could say about this place! We will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely stay Dan and Ellie. Looking forward to seeing you again later in the year, James, Zoe and Milo

Heartily recommend

I would, and do, heartily recommend glamping at Canvas & Campfires to everyone. Homely, comfortable cabins with great beds, an incredibly effective log burner and the most amazing views of the surrounding fields, trees, sheep ... There are animals for the kids to feed, even hen-fresh eggs to eat, your own fire pit to cook on outside as the sun goes down on the spectacular scenery around you. We've just returned from our third visit and we haven't scratched the surface of things to do in the broader area. One of us is in a wheelchair and it is fully accessible, even on a farm! You can drive right up to Enfys and there's a boardwalk into the tent. Dan is the friendliest, most helpful host you could ever hope for and really makes every stay feel relaxed and enjoyable. We will be back again and again, it is truly the perfect place to stay.
