It's obviously nice to stay on a boat but luxury-loving land-lubbers will fall in love with it too. This is a purpose-built houseboat, moored in Edinburgh's placid Lochrin Basin, tucked away on a pedestrianised quay, so it's very quiet and peaceful despite being within easy walking distance of more or less everything you might want to see and do in the city. The boat itself is huge – 60-feet long and 11-feet wide, with a crisp, contemporary look throughout. Decorated with bright oak wood, there's a large and comfortable sitting room with a flatscreen TV and Alexa voice-controlled access to thousands of movies, and a well-equipped galley kitchen with a breakfast bar. There are two comfy double cabins, plus recessed bunk beds for the kids and a double sofa bed in the main lounge if you want to squeeze in two more.
The cabins have comfortable beds with high quality linen, bathrobes and slippers as well as eco-friendly toiletries to use in the small but well-appointed bathroom, which has a toilet, sink and shower. A washing machine, tumble dryers as well as extra showers and toilet facilities are available on land in the shared facilities block, a 2-minute walk from the boat. The boat has good wifi, there's parking nearby,, and they even lay on rods and nets in case you fancy a spot of fishing. Upstairs, canopied flower-filled decks provide a good place to sit and take in the waterfront over a glass of wine in the evening, and the friendly owner Natalie can arrange dinner, barbecues or other events if you contact her in advance. It's worth knowing that she also has another boat for rent, the newer and slightly more spacious Camillia, moored next door.
One of the best things about The Four Sisters, however, is its location, which is very central: just 5 minutes' walk from Edinburgh's funky West End district and 10 minutes' from the city centre proper. Exploring Edinburgh and coming back to your own houseboat at night is a lovely way to experience the city, whether you're a family, a group of friends or just a couple looking for somewhere different to stay. Four Sisters is terrific self-catering accommodation that would suit anyone looking to spend a few days in Edinburgh.
