Kin Rooms is the latest venture from the family-and-friends collaboration behind the gorgeous Kin Kitchen in the heart of Ludlow. Having poured heart and soul into a stylish daytime café with a stupendous, mature, walled garden, owners John and Janet, and Janet's son Joel, turned their attention to the once-neglected upper floors of the historic building. The result – four beautiful, boutique studio apartments that offer a luxurious base in this famous foodie destination.

It's been a real joint enterprise, calling on the architectural, design and building expertise of family members, friends, and business partner David, and the pay-off is clear from the minute you walk through the door. These are stunningly designed, light-filled quarters, individually styled and beautifully detailed. Oak beams, slate floors and lime-plaster walls have been brought back to life, while natural fabrics and locally sourced furnishings are used throughout. Upcycled furniture, period pieces, feature walls, designer lighting and bespoke decoration make bold statements, but there's nothing over the top here – just supremely welcoming and well-thought-out apartments that are a pleasure to spend time in.

King-sized beds and crisply presented en-suite shower rooms are standard, along with smart TVs, sound systems and all the other bits and bobs you'd expect in high-end accommodation. The two smaller apartments have a kitchenette – very well-equipped – while the two larger ones come with a full kitchen (ie, also with oven and full-sized fridge-freezer). Each apartment sleeps a couple in spacious comfort, though Flat 3 – at a whopping almost-80-square metres – has two bedrooms and an extra bathroom, and sleeps four. Nearest parking is a couple of hundred metres away – reasonably priced, free overnight and free on Sundays.

If you're planning on self-catering, Ludlow is certainly the place for it, with its artisan food producers, shops and markets, but spare a thought for the café on your doorstep. You get the same excellent Ludlow Tea Library tea and Hundred House coffee supplied in your room for starters. There's breakfast, lunch, and dinner one night a week available in Kin Kitchen, but best of all is after-hours guest access to the wonderful garden – the inspirational place at the heart of this inspiring family business. It's worth mentioning their other nearby property – Cruckbarn – a two-bedroom country retreat, if that's more your style.

Gorgeous comfortable appartment with an excellent cafe below

We stayed at Kin room last Saturday. We were visiting for the lovely Christmas market and a weekend getaway. We stayed in flat 4 which had a separate living space and kitchen to the ensuit bedroom. Wow! The place is big bright and airy with beautiful decoration and high quality fittings. Lots of special little touches and everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was cozy and quiet with a very comfortable bed. The cafe downstairs run by the owners also was brilliant too and we had the best brunch on Sunday morning.
