Number One St Luke's

Definitely not your average Blackpool B&B – when Mark and Claire Smith first opened Number One in a regular house in a residential street in a quiet part of South Shore, the boutique stylings and all-round gorgeousness stuck out like a sore thumb. Roll on a few years, as Blackpool has upped its game across the board, and there are a fair few contemporary accommodation choices around now, but Number One still keeps its nose in front – it was Visit Britain's 'B&B of the Year' a few years back, and there's a personal service here that's very appealing if you're tired of bland hotels.

The house style is glam-boutique rather than understated – it is Blackpool, after all – and you've got the lot in each of the three individually styled rooms, from whirlpool baths to WiFi. For an intimate Blackpool romantic retreat, we reckon you could hardly do better. There are also more rooms (and sea views) at their bigger seaside hotel, Number One South Beach, which isn't far away, and from either it's just a short walk to the Pleasure Beach or to the seafront for the tram into town. So you can leave the car at home. Or, like Claire, if you have an electric car, you can charge it overnight at their very own, universal electric car charging socket.
