397–400 Geffrye St Hoxton London E2 8HZ
It's a traditional place in its way, but this is no pub with grub; instead traditional English foods are given a gourmet twist, as in their duck fat chips and venison and pig’s trotter pie with buttered greens. The menu changes with the seasons, guaranteeing fresh ingredients and new flavors with every visit, and you can enjoy it in both the buzzy bar and the main restaurant. The drinks menu is right on-message too, as you would expect form somewhere that styles itself as a bar as well as a restaurant, with imaginative and even savoury cocktails, including five different Bloody Marys, each with its own distinct spice and flavour and using things like chorizo-infused vodka. In short, classic dishes and ingredients, infused with with modern flavours and styles. There's a lovely bar snacks menu, too (pork pies, chicken wings, roe on toast), or, as it's an all-day café, you can just grab a coffee here, or enjoy an excellent brunch on weekends.
