You may not be able to point straight away at Hertfordshire on a map (find London, and go up a bit), but you'll know of its attractions, from historic St Albans Cathedral to the official Harry Potter Tour at Warner Bros. Granted, newer towns like Stevenage and Watford might not be first port of call for tourists and city-break visitors, but across the county there's rolling countryside, traditional villages, historic houses (Knebworth the most famous), Roman ruins and manicured gardens – in short, the kind of classic English mix that makes for a great weekend away or a day out from the capital.
