London hotels don't get much more opulent than the current incarnation of the Kensington Hotel, which occupies a truly stunning heritage building and after recent refurbishment offers the very best in contemporary comfort. Step into the expansive, stone-floored entrance hall and discover the period drawing rooms of what were once individual Regency townhouses. You'll find parquet floors, large bay windows and working fireplaces, plus opulent details throughout, from antique furniture to original artworks on the walls. Rooms range from the superior double which is compact but luxurious, to the all-out glamour of the suites, which feature four-poster beds, free-standing baths and vast lounge areas. All rooms have plush linens, flatscreen TVs and complimentary internet access, and downstairs you can while away an evening with dinner in the restaurant and cocktails in the bar. Gladrags only though – and expect to pay in excess of £10 a drink.
PriceDoubles £234–330, suites from £450.
