A family-owned and run boutique hotel in London’s Pimlico
The Grade II-listed Georgian House Hotel is found on the elegant streets of Pimlico between Victoria Station and the River Thames. It’s a smart 19th-century townhouse offering a place to stay that teeters the line between a B&B and a boutique hotel. It has 45 individually-designed guest rooms, which are characterful, comfortable and centrally located. From here, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Battersea Power Station, with its shops, bars and restaurants, are within a 30-minute walk. And if you don’t fancy half an hour on foot, overground and underground trains are much closer than that.
Whether you’re in London for business or pleasure, on your own or with the family, Georgian House has likely got a room for you. There are numerous categories: 'Tiny Singles', 'Comfy Doubles', 'Classy Rooms' and 'Family Rooms'. Considering the age of the place, it’s surprising what they’ve managed to fit in, though all the guest rooms display a flair for classic design. Original features, fireplaces and antique furniture sit in rooms that are largely painted in soft and soothing colours with contemporary patterns, palettes and prints alongside. Thoughtful lighting and plush fabrics help everything feel luxe, and each room has just what you need: a Smart TV, a hairdryer and rather nice toiletries too. Superfast WiFi is delivered as you’d expect from a city-centre location. There’s also a couple of Wizard Chambers tucked behind bookcases on the lower ground floor – themed rooms that are magical, gothic and fun, with stained glass, candlelight and four-poster beds helping create an illusion of which Harry Potter would be proud. What you might not expect is Pimlico Pictures: a red velvet-lined mini-cine room for two, which you can book as a fun extra.
Pimlico Pantry is the other shared space to mention. It’s there you’ll join others for breakfast – or, if you book it, for afternoon tea. A light lunch menu of salads and sandwiches is also offered daily until 14:30. For more than that, you’re well-placed to eat out and explore in Pimlico and further afield. If you like the look and location but prefer to self-cater, the family behind Georgian House offers apartments nearby as well. Named 'Chinnery House', they're just a two-minute walk away. And, if you fancy an escape to The Lakes sometime, their signature style can be found in distant sister property, Victorian House, which we rate rather highly as well.
