Saturday’s Broadway market is hipster central in Hackney, with crowds of moustachioed dandies and gamine women browsing the stalls that stretch along this strip, just to the south of London Fields park. There are lots of vintage clothing stalls, lingerie and accessories, but the food on offer is the main event – first-rate and mostly artisanal. Gujarati Rasoi offer the best thalis and samosas for miles, Jollofpot serve up spicy Ghanaian grub, Violet serve pretty cakes with natural icings, plus there’s home-cured Norwegian salmon, German sausages, an eye-popping array of baking, cheeses and fresh fruit and veg. Prices are a little on the high side, but for food this good there aren’t many complaints.
