The views say it all – this Appledore holiday cottage is an ideal base for exploring the delights of North Devon

Up on the hill above the centre of the small seaside town of Appledore, the benefits of this wonderful holiday cottage are spread right out in front of you as soon as you arrive, with views stretching not just over this delightful seaside town but also along the breadth of the North Devon Coast, from Westward Ho! to the south to the expansive sands and dunes at Saunton to the north. In short, you can plan your time as soon as you plonk yourself down: the property provides a supremely comfortable base to make the most of this beautiful part of the West Country, plus it's dog friendly, welcoming up to two pooches.

It's a bright, modern and spacious property, with at its heart an open plan and very well-equipped kitchen-diner, with a dining table that can seat up to 8 people, a sofa, log burner and Smart TV, and amazing views over the coast. There's also a comfy sitting room with a Smart TV, a downstairs bathroom with toilet and shower, and access to a garden with outdoor furniture. On the upper ground floor there's another bathroom (with a bath), beyond which there are 4 bedrooms – 2 singles at the back, overlooking the garden, and 2 doubles that make the most of the property's sea views, looking south towards Westward Ho!. One room has a double bed, the other a king-size bed along with an en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet, and a window seat for enjoying those views.

Appledore itself is one of the most attractive spots along this stretch of the North Devon coast, a picturesque old fishing port of winding streets and pastel-painted houses that was once also known for its shipbuilding. It's stacked with maritime heritage, with good pubs and indy shops, a nice old quayside and maritime museum. There's no beach as such, but Westward Ho! is only a few miles to the west and Instow's sandy beach is on the other side of Bideford's estuary. Bideford itself provides a bit of metropolitan excitement, and for walkers and cyclists there's the appeal of the Tarka Trail, which runs from Bideford to Barnstaple and eventually all the way to Lynton in Exmoor.

Available all year.
