A beautiful contemporary barn conversion right on the South Devon coast

Vaulted ceilings, characterful beams and glorious countryside views are just three things that await at The Shippon, a four-bedroom barn conversion in Dawlish. Tucked into the rolling hills of South Devon, yet within five kilometres of the beach, the beautifully styled property is ideal for holidays with friends or family – and you can reach it on the train too!

The wow factor, double-height, open-plan living area is the heart of the house, featuring a spacious, well-equipped kitchen with an island and stool seating, plus a pair of relaxation areas – one that overlooks the terrace and countryside beyond from bi-fold doors, while the other centres around a flatscreen TV. The modern yet characterful space also features a large, eight-person dining table, and 'Ermintrude', a full-size cow sculpture – a nod to the home's former life as a cattle barn. Completing the picture is a separate utility room.

You'll also find three stylish bedrooms on the ground floor, each with garden and countryside outlooks; two have en-suite shower rooms, and one is configurable as a twin. A family bathroom with a shower bath is on this level, too. Upstairs there's a fabulous, wood-beam ceilinged master suite with an en-suite bathroom with a deluxe double shower and a tub, a snug with seating and a desk, and a sizeable walk-in wardrobe/dressing area. If you prefer to explore, there are options galore, including visiting the nearby town of Dawlish, where you'll find sandy beaches, restaurants, cafés and amusements, and checking out the bustling promenades at Teignmouth and Shaldon. From Dawlish Warren, you can take a ferry to Exmouth, and Dartmoor National Park is within easy reach by car. And the great thing is you have The Shippon to come back to at the end of the day!
