An exquisitely renovated chapel in a picturebook-perfect village on the edge of the Mendip Hills.

Situated in the picture-book-pretty village of Ubley, a little way south of both Bristol and Bath on the edge of Somerset's Mendip Hills, this exquisitely renovated late-nineteenth-century Methodist Church is a one-in-a-million find. Not only is it a brilliant conversion of a beautiful old building, which oozes character and and mod cons all at the same time, it's also as comfortable a holiday cottage as you could find. It does a great job of retaining the innate character of the chapel, with a mix of rich Victorian colours, accented with copper and brass, and a vast main living space complete with the original organ and pulpit, stained glass windows and a cast iron candelabra hanging from the ceiling which adds a contemporary character but one which is perfectly in tune with the building. Even the glass-and-steel mezzanine has a sense of Victorian engineering about it, and it similarly blends old and new, with a perfectly pitched baby grand piano and Sonos sound system that will appeal to musicians and music lovers alike. There's also a 52” flatscreen TV with Freeview – plus wifi throughout. There's a spacious kitchen that is suited to both cooking and enjoying big dinners while upstairs in the rafters there are two sumptuous double bedrooms and a period-style bathroom with a copper roll-top bath and a generously proportioned copper rainfall shower.
The Chapel really is the perfect country bolthole for two couples or a small group of friends, who fancy somewhere a little bit different to stay while still enjoying a touch of modern-day luxury. The location is great too, very rural, with a garden to the front and side of the property and surrounded by the Mendip Hills and overlooking buttercup fields, and with a nearby public footpath to follow so you can leave your car keys in the drawer. What's more, the same people also own the excellent and very cosy Ring O'Bells pub in the next village – Compton Martin - so you have no excuse not to fraternise with the locals! All in all a perfect place from which to explore a beautiful part of Somerset.
