A family-sized luxury lodge and yurt on a magical smallholding near Looe in Cornwall
Describing somewhere as 'enchanted' is a bold claim. But, to be fair, that's exactly what owners Amanda and Allan thought when they stumbled across this place less than a decade ago. Because this 34-acre smallholding does indeed feel magical, with its own bubbling brook, wildflower meadows and lots of active local wildlife tucked away in its own valley just a few miles northwest of Looe and the south Cornwall coast. It's an enchanting location by any standards. For families, it's a dream.
Despite the name, the accommodation here consists of just the one yurt – Owl – and a charming pixie style cabin known as Pheasant Lodge. The latter sleeps up to five people on a king-size bed, a daybed and a couple of extendable futons. It has solar powered lighting, USB charging points, outside decking with a table and chairs, plus a chimenea for al fresco evenings. Across the stream, Owl Yurt is a little bit more secluded. It too can sleep up to five people on a mixture of a double bed, day bed and futons. It has its own log-burning stove and solar-power lighting and the same outdoor setup of decking equipped with a table, chairs and a chimenea. The vibe in both is cosy and boho, with plentiful rugs and throws adding a welcome touch of enchantment.
The yurt and lodge share a log cabin housing the toilets and hot solar-powered showers. And an additional communal cabin is home to a well-equipped kitchen, kitted out with a fridge and freezer, range cooker, microwave, toaster and kettle. Pots and pans, crockery and cutlery are all provided, as are tables and chairs, games and books for rainy days. Outside, you'll also find a wood-burning pizza oven and a barbecue, along with a campfire area for lazy evenings chatting and watching the sun set. Little ones will love spotting the curious free-range chickens and petting the friendly donkeys.
