The Atlantic Hotel is well-named, occupying an enviable ocean-facing location perched on a headland high above Towan, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze and Porth beaches, and just a stone's throw from the vibrant heart of Newquay. The historic property was built in 1892 and has an indoor pool, a spa, restaurant, cocktail bar and breakfast room. In the 60s, The Beatles filmed scenes for their Magical Mystery Tour at the glamorous getaway. Back in the present day, The Cornwall Hotel Collection welcomed The Atlantic into its growing family.
There are 57 rooms – each different, but all light and generously proportioned to make the most of the sea outlooks, with elegant Art Deco touches and complimentary use of the spa and pool included. Some have a balcony, while others, such as the two-bedroom, four-person Cliffside Apartment, are ideal for families. The pièce de résistance? The recently unveiled Lookout, a luxurious split-level self-catering apartment for up to eight guests, and the first project completed since under new ownership.
Silks, the hotel's eatery, serves dishes such as seared mackerel fillet with blush tomato niçoise and lemon dressing, confit butternut squash steak with baked herb crust, and classics like fish and chips, sirloin steak and burgers. And the cocktail bar? Designed by Harrods in the 30s.
Meanwhile, the spa is all about the glorious vistas – home to an indoor heated pool, a hot tub and a treatment room, all overlooking the water, as well as a sauna and steam room.
