Cosy shepherds huts with hot tubs set in tranquil Somerset countryside

Sited on an idyllic old orchard overlooking the Somerset Levels, with a cider shack a mile up the road, Collie Shepherd Huts couldn’t be more quintessentially West Country. And while this may still very much be a working family farm, hard graft will be the last thing on your mind here. With a king-sized bed, log burner, en suite bathroom and a wood-fired hot tub and fire pit outside, these cosy timber-clad cabins have been designed with comfort as the top priority.

There are just two huts: Collie and Shetland View. Each sleeps two and they are adults-only, so it’s a blissfully tranquil spot for your self-catered stay. Your nearest neighbours, in fact, are horses and miniature Shetland ponies – in the summer, you can watch as they graze in a paddock in front of your hut. Both have the same amenities, but style-wise they're a bit different: Collie is more colourful and quirky; Shetland View more traditional. The latter has a fold-down bed while Collie’s is permanently positioned in an alcove.

Whichever you choose, there are well-equipped kitchenettes and seating areas inside and out. Beds are made, towels are provided and little extra touches ensure these are shepherd’s huts on the high end of the glamping scale. Toiletries are in the bathrooms, tea and coffee in the kitchenette and logs are complimentary. Host Chloe even warms the hot tub for you before you arrive and offers her local recommendations in a helpful folder.

You really couldn't be more comfortable here – so much so that many guests opt to stay put. But should you decide to venture further afield, Chloe is a mine of information on the pick of the nearby sights and activities. A trip to the Bere Cider Company, just over a mile up the road, comes highly recommended. As does the Halfway House if you’re looking for a pub and a spot of dinner. She also gives directions for lovely local walks and peaceful cycle rides. For day trips, Glastonbury Tor and town are a mere nine miles away, while the city of Wells lies a few miles further. But here, about four miles from the town of Langport, you're slap bang in the middle of Somerset and not too far from anywhere you might want to visit – that is, if you can bare to leave your hut at all!

Just perfect!

The hut was clean and well equipped, with some beautiful extra touches like crumpets and milk being provided. It had everything we needed for our weekend break. All bedding and towels were provided and there were things like a hairdryer for after the tub, blankets for a chilly evening and sticks to toast marshmallows on! The hot tub and fire pit were superb, and well used by us! It got soooo hot we were able to stay in for hours! The view was to die for- with rolling fields in front of us, with grazing horses, many different birds and the sound of cows and wildlife all around. It was in a very rural location which meant it was peaceful and tranquil. Lots of towns and cities near enough to get out exploring each day! The host was great at communicating and gave us a very friendly welcome. We would absolutely come back ❤️

Already looking forward to our next visit!

My partner and I spent a few nights in the Collie Shepherd’s Hut just before the Easter weekend, and we had the most wonderfully relaxing stay. Everything was perfect, and we truly couldn’t fault a thing. Chloe was an exceptional host—thoughtful and attentive. She kindly had the hot tub warmed and ready for our arrival, which was such a lovely touch. The following day, after a long walk along the stunning cliff tops in Cheddar, she went out of her way to prepare it for us again, so we could unwind the moment we got back. The location of the hut is beautifully peaceful, surrounded by fields and farmland, offering a real sense of escape. The hut itself was cosy, well-equipped, and had everything we needed. One of our favourite moments was enjoying a morning cup of tea in bed while watching the ponies grazing at the bottom of the garden.. so tranquil. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

My partner and I had a wonderful stay here at ‘Shetland View’ Shepherds Hut. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing time and made full use of the fantastic facilities that were provided, including the thoughtful welcome treats, log burner and especially the hot tub. The design of the shepherd’s hut has been carefully thought out with so many lovely touches and the fold away bed/table is a clever way of making the most of the space. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or even stay again.

Highly recommend

We had the most perfect stay in the beautiful shepherd's hut, surrounded by stunning scenery. Chloe is such a lovely and kind host, and her thoughtful touch with the breakfast hamper was greatly appreciated. My partner, Amy, and I had an unforgettable time on our very first getaway together as a couple. The hot tub was an absolute highlight, and we loved cozying up around the fire pit. This is the ideal romantic retreat, offering all the luxuries of the countryside. We can't thank Chloe enough for such an incredible experience, and we’ll definitely be back! Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful and romantic escape.

We're recommending to friends and family!

Chloe has been the perfect host for my partner and I celebrating his birthday and Valentine’s Day. The shepherd’s hut was as described, very clean and cosy. The little extra touches of decorations, Prosecco, breakfast bits and snacks, as well as ensuring our hot tub was warm for arrival on day one and returning from a walk on day two were so kind. Chloe has also been very helpful in posting items left behind quickly for us! The hot tub is super easy to operate and gets very hot. The recommended pubs were easy to get to and great value for money. We will definitely be returning in future and are recommending to friends and family!
