Orchard Cottage

Situated on the long private driveway to Dillington House, Somerset, this is one of the smaller of several holiday cottages that can be rented on this working farm and estate, and is an excellent choice for a family looking for a bucolic West Country location. The farm has been in the same hands for two centuries, and, with over 3000 acres given over to a dairy and arable farm, woodland and parkland, there are walks galore through countryside and parkland that you often have almost entirely to yourself.

A grade-II-listed house of honey coloured stone, Orchard Cottage has three main double bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms plus one loft bedroom. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor, making it easier to access for guests  of limited mobility. It has a super-king-size bed and a wet room with a shower. Of the two upstairs bedrooms, one has a super-king-size four-poster and an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and a beautiful freestanding bath, while the other has a walk-in shower only. All three bedrooms can also be arranged as twins. There's also a further loft bedroom that can only be accessed only through one of the main bedrooms, making it ideal for a family with young children.

Downstairs there's an open-plan and very well-equipped kitchen-diner with induction hob, oven, large fridge-freezer with ice-machine and a washer-dryer, along with a dining table seating 10 guests, and a separate utility room. Next door there's a spacious living room with comfy sofas, a wood-burning stove and large fireplace, large flatscreen TV and Bluetooth soundbar and a separate Bluetooth DAB radio sound system, plus there's a separate study for a bit of quiet time.

Outside there's good-sized garden with a sheltered outdoor dining area and a wood-fired hot-tub, not to mention access to any number of country walks and cycle routes. There's a great farm shop short walk from the house, so you need never go hungry, and a number of decent pubs within walking distance, for example the Barrington Boar, which has been written up as one of the best 30 places for a pub lunch in the UK. Try also the excellent Lord Poulett Arms, a short drive away, for dinner.
