A beautiful rural retreat with a range of luxury cottages and a host of facilities, including a pool.

Three generations of the Wright family have overseen the restoration and letting of these beautiful period cottages, barns and outbuildings, which overlook the glorious green, rolling countryside of the Looe river valley, a few miles inland in south Cornwall. We see a lot of places that call themselves 'luxury' that don't really deserve the tag, but these guys have gone the extra mile to make the self-catering cottages scattered around their family farm into somewhere that is truly outstanding.

There are 15 cottages in all, ranging from romantic 1-bedroom love-nests for couples, through 2- and 3-bedroom cottages ideal for families, right up to 4–6-bedroom places big enough multiple families or groups of friends (plus two glamping 'Hideaway' huts). They are all furnished and maintained to the same high standards, with big comfy sitting rooms with log fires, cosy bedrooms, well-appointed kitchens, private gardens and spectacular views.

It's the sort of place that would suit anyone looking for a self-contained retreat in beautiful countryside not far from the sea, but above all it's a fabulous place for families and kids, with the farm's 150 acres providing fields to run in, woods to hide in and plenty of nearby walks and picnic spots. They also have a decent-sized outdoor swimming pool, tennis and horse-riding (there's a riding school on site), and they lay on a kids' club for when weary parents want a break. Other facilities include wifi, home-cooked dinners if you can't be bothered to cook, and all the cottages are dog-friendly.

There is a good pub a short walk away in Duloe village, the Plough Inn, which does food and also takes dogs, and a multitude of walks you can do beyond the farm – north to the Duloe Stone Circle, or south down the valley to the sea at Looe.
