From Cornwall’s Atlantic Highway, a few miles south of Bude, drive west until you can drive west no more and you’ll find Cleave Farm Cottages – a cluster of former farm buildings that includes a pair of holiday homes that are full of Cornish charm. On the way, you’ll have had glimpses of the ocean beyond, and while the windows of your cottage may not have a view of the sea, it’s tantalisingly close. The cliff top and the South West Coast Path are a three-minute walk from your front door, and the beach at Crackington Haven is only a mile and a half away.
While the salt and the sound of waves blow in on the wind, Cleave Farm is sheltered in a peaceful wooded valley and has been for hundreds of years. Three-bedroomed Abel's Cottage was once Abel the blacksmith’s forge, while two-bedroomed Cleave Cottage was built to store grain three centuries ago. Stone and wonky cob walls, slate floors and ancient beams testify to their heritage, and log burners, vintage furniture and found-artefacts add to their charm. But among the old and the charming you'll find fashion, function and a thoroughly family feel.
These are well-converted holiday homes that have been kept up-to-date for contemporary guests since their conversion over 40 years ago. And they’ve remained in the same family all that time. In fact, your only neighbours here are your hosts, who are never far away if you need them. Abel's Cottage has an open-plan living space downstairs with a double bedroom upstairs in the eaves, a king bedroom and a bathroom downstairs. Cleave Cottage, meanwhile, is upside down, with a double, twin room and bathroom downstairs and an open-plan living space on the first floor, under the wooden beams. Both properties have Smart TVs, WiFi, and modern kitchens and bathrooms, and they're in the top 10% of listings on Airbnb in terms of reviews, ratings and reliability.
Outside each cottage there's a patio with seating and a charcoal barbecue. You’re surrounded by trees and fields and there’s a footpath which leads to the cliffs. On a sunny evening, head along it to watch the sun go down over the sea, while a daytime walk along the cliff path to the cove of Crackington Haven is a must. It takes about an hour to get there, and if the tide is out, you’ll find a sandy beach and surf. If the tide is in, head for an ice cream at The Cabin Café or a pint at The Coombe Barton Inn. Bude is 10 miles up the coast, Boscastle six miles to the south, with the spectacular English Heritage site of Tintagel a few miles further on.

Such a fabulous place to stay
Me and my family have been visiting Cleave Farm for years and have stayed in both cottages at different times. It really is the most wonderful, magical place for a family holiday. The cottages are each very different, quaint, comfortable and well-equipped. Our favourite is probably Abels, but there is not much in it. The hosts have always been extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. But the biggest thing about Cleave Farm is the location - it is such an amazing escape to be staying on the farm, up on the beautiful Cornish clifftop, with amazing views and feeling like you have escaped from it all. We also are big fans of Crackington Haven, and the walk over the cliffs down the beach is always a highlight to our trips. Our kids have grown and flown the coup but my wife and I still love to go back whenever we can. Can't recommend this Cornish escape enough!

Our happy place 💗
Cleave has been a magical home away from home for us for very many happy years. We always feel full of excited anticipation as we drive through the ford and up the pretty lane to Cleave Farm. And it’s always a big wrench to say goodbye. You won’t find a lovelier place, or more genuinely warm, welcoming hosts anywhere in the world that you travel. If you love stargazing, dramatic sunsets, stunning secret beaches, peaceful woodlands, wild cliff top walks and nature in joyful abundance then Cleave Farm is for you! It’s the perfect combination of peace and tranquillity… with memorable adventures never far away. Just to add that Gary’s home-cooked curries are delicious and unmissable!

Been staying at Cleave for 30 years
My family have been staying at Cleave for over 30 years and we will continue to do so. It’s located in the perfect place for a quiet holiday with breathtaking views of the North Cornish coast. The cottages are all beautiful and the hosts extremely helpful and accommodating. We will be back again in the near future.

A paradise in the middle of nowhere
What a location! Close to the coastal path, in the middle of nowhere. Good beaches can be reached by car in ten minutes. And then there are the cottages: cosy old walls outside, modern equipment inside. With everything you need for a family holiday - dishwasher, cooker with oven, microwave, spacious fridge. The light-flooded "Cleave Cottage" is the smaller of the two, with bedrooms for 4 people and a modern bathroom with shower. Central heating provides cosy warmth on cold days, and in summer you can sit out on the terrace with a view of the countryside. The cosy, bright "Abel's Cottage" offers space for six people. Car parking is available directly at the cottages. We have been travelling to Cleave for a month every year for the last 3o years. We can highly recommend the cottages and the friendly owners. We can only recommend the cottages and the friendly owners. In a nutshell: if you want a unique holiday, you are in the right place.

The perfect stay on the North Cornwall coast
We are returning guests to Cleave Farm, having discovered it a few years ago after holidaying in Crackington Haven for 50 years. The cottages have been converted from the original farm buildings, and are beautifully designed, spotlessly clean and perfectly appointed. Fantastic for both teenagers and small children, as there are plenty of spaces to chill, inside and out, and for little ones to play. The location is incredible - just moments walk across the field to the coastal path, with far-reaching views over the high cliffs. Perfect for short walks, long hikes or to just to sit and take in the scenery.
Katy and her family live on the farm and can provide anything you need to make your holiday perfect, but you also feel as though you have the place to yourself thanks to the clever design of the spaces.
You can walk to the beach at Crackington Haven by following the coastal path over the fields and down Penkenna point, or it's a 5 minute drive along the beautiful farm track and then down the road to the beach with its fantastic pub and small cafes.
Can't recommend Cleave Farm Cottages highly enough. A perfect holiday setting in the most beautiful part of North Cornwall.

Beautiful, comfortable and peaceful - a gem
We have been coming to Cleave every year for 20 years, first as a couple and now with our kids. We all love it. Both Abel’s and Cleave cottages are so comfortable, stylish and well-equipped, its like coming home each time we visit. The environment is stunning; just being able to walk a few minutes from the cottages to the wild coastline is wonderful respite and the longer walk to the great beach at Crackington Haven has become a family favourite. We always receive a fabulous welcome from the great hosts, which makes our stays a joy. We unreservedly recommend Cleave for a break away from it all.

Really loved our stay
My friend and I had an amazing stay at Abel's cottage. The cottage is gorgeous - really cozy and such a great location right by the coastal path. The light through the
big arched window in the living room and the high ceilings make the cottage feel really spacious, and we enjoyed lighting the woodburner in the evenings. It's beautifully quiet at the cottage - silent and pitch black at night, so some great quality sleeps were had! Also, worth mentioning that the WiFi worked well - both myself and my friend had work video calls at the same time on multiple occasions, and didn't experience any issues staying connected. Katy and Gary communicated really well, and all instructions were clear and easy to follow. Really loved our stay, will definitely look to book again.

Just what we wanted for a winter getaway
A great location, close to a really amazing part of the coast path. The cottage was lovely, just what we wanted for a winter getaway. Katy was great from start to finish, which made it all really easy.

recommend and will be back :)

Would love to come back
Honestly, we didn’t think we’d drive that far from London for a short stay (2 night), but we couldn’t have been more happy to do so! The cottage itself is fabulous, relaxing
and spacious. The access to the coastal hike is easy and offers a piece of paradise literally 5 min from where you sleep. We have spent one of the best weekends of our
time spent in the UK. My partner Jesse and I would love to come back, sooner than later. Thanks for the wonderful stay Katy.
