The building dates back to 1904 and was originally built to provide holiday accommodation for the rich mill owners of Lancashire; its Cumbrian slate roof and traditional stone walling are typical of the Arts and Crafts homes from the era. All the rooms are generously proportioned and tastefully furnished and come with a thoughtful selection of local teas, biscuits and toiletries. with large windows giving a light and airy feel throughout. The lounge is spacious with excellent views of the grounds and oversized sofas to sink down into after a long day outdoors.

With the England’s longest lake pretty much on your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore, and and hotel is extremely dog-friendly should you have a pooch in tow. Windermere Lake Cruises welcome well behaved dogs for free on all of their boats and just across the lake you’ll find a lovely walk along the shores up to Wray Castle with plenty of small beach areas perfect for picnics and a quick dip.

All dogs will be welcomed with a bed, bowls and selection of treats and there is no shortage of walks available right from the front door, with staff eager to direct you to the most suitable routes for you and your pooch. The hotel accepts two dogs per room and also welcomes them into the lounge area, where arrangements can be made to have breakfast served if you’d prefer not to leave your dog(s) alone in your room. Dogs are welcomed into all of the ground floor rooms and the ample grounds are the perfect place for a short leg stretch if you fancy a bit of a lazy day.
