Boutique rooms and food in a gorgeous Lakeland location.
It means 'Number One' in local dialect, and there's a good chance that The Yan will be number one on your agenda after spending a night or two here, or eating in the downstairs restaurant. Part of the the successful Broadrayne Farm business, which also includes glamping and a set of comfy holiday cottages, this brand-new restaurant with rooms is their latest venture. A short hop north of Grasmere, it occupies a lovely old country property that enjoys wonderful views over the surrounding landscape and is decorated in a rustic contemporary style that will make anyone feel at home.
The seven upstairs rooms are each individually decorated and come in various shapes and sizes, as you would expect in a historic building like this; there are 3 standard cosy doubles, a couple of spacious suites (with a double bed and sofa bed) that will easily accommodate a family of four and two dog-friendly rooms – a nice thought in what is so obviously a dog-friendly environment. All of the rooms are equipped with Smart TVs, tea-and coffee-making facilities, good wifi and super-king-sized beds with good quality linen(which can also be configured to sleep 3 if need be); bathrooms are crisp and modern and come with rainfall showers and backlit heated mirrors that run the length of the room.
Downstairs there's a comfy open-plan lounge decorated in a similarly contemporary yet cosy country style, and the restaurant, which serves hearty British food from 3pm till 9pm at great prices – just the sort of food you need after walking the fells, including a choice of sumptuous sharing platters as well as a range of delicious breakfast dishes. Owners Dave and Sally are usually around, as is their daughter Jess, who is the hotel's general manager, while her husband and chef Will oversees the kitchen. All in all, then, a family affair, offering beautiful, very well-priced boutique rooms and great food in a gorgeous location. A winning formula, if ever there was one!
