Chris and Michelle Whalley are quite a team – specialists in creating comfortable and quirky glamping experiences, the latest of which is your very own Secret Garden, just like in the children's book – a tiny cabin hideaway with its own private and very secluded garden. This Secret Garden can be found alongside their very popular treehouses and log cabins in the small village of Blean, a few miles outside Canterbury and a short distance from the seaside resort of Whitstable on the north Kent coast.
Designed to blend in with the garden and its leafy surroundings, the Secret Garden is a cosy and romantic retreat for couples, with a comfortable king-sized pocket sprung mattress tucked into the framework of a wooden pod complete with glass walls and glass ceiling. A wood-burner and underfloor heating keep you toasty warm, and there's a gas hob for making a cup of tea or basic meals. You also get a Welcome Pack full of breakfast stuff and other goodies, plus milk and a bottle of Prosecco in the under-counter fridge-freezer. A stable door opens from the side so you can don towelling robe and slippers (provided) to dash to the two-person wooden hot tub and sit gazing up at the stars while enjoying a glass of bubbly. There is a flushing toilet and shower at the far end of the hideaway, equipped with Neal's Yard toiletries and fluffy towels, and when night falls you can light the outdoor firepit, barbecuing your dinner and toasting marshmallows to your heart's content. It's a bite-sized rural escape, with no TV and very limited wifi and such is a great place to relax, and you can be here in an hour by car from London. There's parking for one car, and all linen and towels are included in the price of a stay.
There are lots of good walks nearby in Blean Woods, along Crab and Winkle Way to Whitstable or in nearby Druidstone Park, and there's also a local pub a five-minute walk away – or plenty of places to eat and drink in Canterbury or Whitstable in the opposite direction. In short it's a perfect refuge for anyone eager to escape London with as little fuss as possible. Other accommodation on the same site includes The Enchanted Faraway Tree, the Treehouse Hideaway, Gulliver - The Quirky Camper and Honey Tree Lodge.
