The Crab and Winkle Way

Between Whitstable and Canterbury

The Crab and Winkle Way follows the line of the disused railway between Canterbury and Whitstable – the first steam-powered railway in the world. Primarily a cycle route – though you can also walk it – it covers a little over seven miles, mostly traffic free through woods and countryside. From Whitstable to Canterbury there’s a fair bit of climbing; the ride back is far quicker and easier. And if you’ve come without your own bikes, pick up one for the day at Whitstable Cycle Hire. In spring and summer the landscape is splashed with colours and its a nice alternative to a day at the beach. A good choice for escaping any crowds.
