The Orangery, at Whitstable Castle, is an entirely new construction but blends seamlessly with the restored building and is a thoroughly atmospheric setting for home-cooked café food. You can take tea and homemade cakes throughout the day, or treat yourself to a light lunch of sandwiches in deliciously fresh baguettes or seasonal daily soups. Some tables are inside the castle, in the wood-panelled Wynn Ellis room, while in summer others are set outside on the terrace. Cream teas make it an enjoyable place to spend a summer afternoon and the cafes just a small pit-stop amid the splendour of the extensive Whitstable Castle gardens a beautiful place to take a stroll.
