A hand-crafted garden hideaway with a glass-ceiling skylight, underfloor heating and an electric hot tub

Chris and Michelle Whalley are quite a team – specialists in creating comfortable and quirky glamping experiences, the latest of which is your very own Secret Cave, just like in the children's book – a cabin hideaway with its own private and very secluded garden. This Secret Cave can be found alongside their very popular treehouses and log cabins in the small village of Blean, a few miles outside Canterbury and a short distance from the seaside resort of Whitstable on the north Kent coast.

Combining natural design with modern comfort, the Secret Cave blends in with the garden and its leafy surroundings and sleeps up to five people across two double beds and a bunk (including children over the age of five). One of the sleeping areas is elevated, situated beneath a glass-ceiling skylight, meaning you can gaze up at the stars each evening before drifting off. Pretty special, we think. The other is tucked away below.

A wood-burner and underfloor heating keep you toasty warm (and air conditioning ensures you stay cool in the summertime), and there's a fully-equipped kitchen with a handcrafted concrete sink, gas hob, oven and dishwasher. What else? An open living and dining space with a Smart TV and WiFi, plus two bathrooms: a luxe wet room and a shower room. You also get a welcome pack full of breakfast things and other goodies, as well as milk and a bottle of Prosecco in the under-counter fridge-freezer. There's parking for two cars, and all linen and towels are included.

From the patio doors, head out to the private garden where you'll find seating, a pizza oven and a fire pit. When night falls, take a dip in the hand-built concrete hot tub while admiring the night sky. It's a magical rural escape, and a great place to relax, plus you can be there in an hour by car from London.

There are lots of good walks nearby in Blean Woods, along Crab and Winkle Way to Whitstable or in nearby Druidstone Park, and a local pub a five-minute walk away – or plenty of places to eat and drink in Canterbury or Whitstable in the opposite direction. In short, it's a perfect refuge for anyone eager to escape the capital with as little fuss as possible. Other accommodation on the same site includes The Enchanted Faraway Tree, the Treehouse Hideaway, The Hobbity Treehouse and Honey Tree Lodge.
