Appletree Cabin
South West England Cornwall Newquay
- From £109 a night
- Sleeps 2–3
- Cabin
Timber-clad walls, a corner sofa, board games and coffee-table books lend the main living space a homely feel, but it’s a flexible room, and the breakfast bar doubles up as a desk. This could easily be used by someone who wants to work after mornings down in the surf. There’s a place to hang wetsuits, surfboards and kayaks outside, and good WiFi (a handy HDMI cable and plenty of sockets mean it’s easy to stay connected). But of course, there’s also plenty to help you switch off – starting with what’s beyond the windows. The cabin sits in its own private garden, and a path leads to a sunken terrace. It’s a suntrap by day and lit by lanterns at night, with a chiminea and a barbecue too.
Back indoors, your wine can be chilling in the dedicated wine fridge or coffee can be brewing thanks to a Nespresso machine. Found at the back of the cabin, in the same space as the main bedroom, the small kitchen is well-equipped for a holiday stay, and there’s a lovely and very well-equipped modern bathroom in between. The cabin is perfect for a couple, works well with a dog, and can accommodate one or two small children if they're okay sharing a sofa bed.
Situated in a rural village, the garden looks over Cornish countryside, and there’s nothing more to the settlement than houses and a dog-friendly gastropub, The Plume of Feathers. Just 15 minutes’ drive from Newquay, Fistral Beach, Watergate Bay and Perranporth, it's a quiet base close to sand, sea, surf and everything that goes with that. It’s also only two minutes off the A30, providing a quick route to just about anywhere else you might want to go on your Cornish holiday. And if you fancy comparing the delights of Devon against Cornwall on a future getaway, be sure to check out Appletree Cabin’s wow-factor sister property — a chic, maritime-themed loft apartment at the historic Royal William Yard in Plymouth’s historic dockside.
