Backpackers and hikers rarely get it as good as this – Grasmere’s indie farmhouse hostel pampers budget travellers with tons of the right stuff, from panoramic lounge to on-site sauna. En-suite bunkrooms are small and cosy – there’s one on the top floor with a private bathroom that sleeps two to three people – while on the ground floor you get a large professionally equipped kitchen plus laundry and drying room. The nearest pub is a few hundred yards down the road, or Grasmere village is ten minutes’ walk away, and the glorious mountains are all around. Plus they have their own, rather lovely glamping site too!
