This excellent, independent backpackers’ hostel in a suburban house, 10–15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Canterbuty has a sister hostel in Brighton. It has private rooms (with tea- and coffee-making facilities) as well as multi-bedded dormitories, and facilities include free wi-fi, a communal kitchen, lounge/dining areas, a pool table and large garden – in which you can camp in summer. There's no curfew, and continental breakfast is available for £2.50. Welcoming and secure, and in a good location.

The closest train station to Kipps is Canterbury East – a 10-min walk away. Turn right out of station and look for the sign that says "Hospital and Colleges" and follow the footpath (along Rhodaus Close). Walk over the railway bridge and at the end of the path turn left onto Oxford Road and then left again at Norman Road . At the top of Norman Road turn right into Nunnery Fields – the hostel is on the left.
