North East England
Is there a region that has as much to offer the visitor as North East England? Home to no less than three national parks – the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Northumberland National Park – it's countryside is dramatic and unspoilt. The coastline, too is a treat, centred on salty old towns like Whitby, famous for its connection to Bram Stoker’s 1897 character Dracula from the gothic novel of the same name. North East England is brimming with history, from the Vikings to the Romans. You won’t go short of Gothic architecture, either.
It's a region that's very much used to visitors, and as a result has a range of hotels and B&Bs – including some superb gastropubs and country inns – that's the match of anywhere in the UK; and with so much beautiful countryside on display, it's easy to find a scenically situated holiday cottage or glamping site. No wonder they call it 'God's Own Country'!
