La Rosa Hotel
UK England North East England North Yorkshire Whitby
Described as ‘more boudoir than boutique’, La Rosa puts Victorian seaside fun centre-stage in eight lovingly furnished rooms occupying a building in which Lewis Carroll often stayed. Wacky decor, retro furniture and fabulously sourced bric-a-brac evoke various dreams and themes, ’Arabesque’ to ’Sacre-Coeur’ with breakfast delivered in a picnic hamper. Four of the rooms have the sea views you come to Whitby for, but even those that don’t have some compensation, from a huge bed to a massive bath. A top-floor ‘Crow’s Nest’ apartment and downstairs tearoom complete the picture, with more of the same wonderful idiosyncrasy on offer in the sister La Rosa campsite, which features vintage-caravan accommodation in the nearby North York Moors.
