Sophisticated, luxurious and spacious, Aquarius Rising is a one-of-a-kind holiday home with plenty of room for up to 12 people to get together. This converted 19th-century chapel house offers reception rooms which are part celebration space, part modern art gallery — and all yours for the duration of your stay. It has its own sauna and hot tub in a private courtyard and sits in a 270-acre country estate just outside the Yorkshire Dales.
Owned by modern art collector, Greville Worthington, there is artwork everywhere you look, from the prints on the walls to light fittings and furniture. It’s a carefully curated collection but the house is functional and spacious too, with six bedrooms and four bathrooms. There’s a kitchen-diner that’s well-equipped and large enough to cater for all guests or perhaps for all guests to be catered for — it’s that kind of place! In fact, while the range cooker and marble-topped island provide the wow factor, there’s a second back kitchen too if extras are needed. If you’re going for an all-out celebration, you may prefer to eat in the impressive entertainment room, which has grandeur and a dining table large enough to seat 12, this one an antique Mouseman with Arne Jacobsen chairs. There’s a quirky nod to another of this room’s uses, with a disco ball hanging from the high ceiling, as well as space to lounge around and relax in. There’s also a separate sitting room with a log burner and 65-inch TV too — and did we mention the cocktail bar?
There is, in fact, too much in Aquarius Rising to explain it all here — so it’s a good job that Greville has included information on some of the pieces he has chosen to share. Just scan the QR codes next to the artwork you’re interested in, and you can hear some of its story. Upstairs, there are three grand bedrooms on the first floor; each with walnut floors, two of them with en suites. A further three bedrooms, cosier spaces, are on the second floor.
Aquarius Rising is such a special place for a celebration that it’s unlikely you’ll want to venture too far away while you’re staying here. Perhaps, after a late night of cocktails and conversation you’ll fancy a bracing walk across the parkland of the estate or to sweat it out in the sauna. But if that’s not enough, there’s plenty more outdoors to explore as Brough Park is situated not far from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and five miles from the market town of Richmond.
