SeaSpace offers self-catering apartments with the facilities and convenience of a hotel, a five-minute walk from the beach. It’s Cornwall’s first coastal aparthotel, with well-designed sea-view rooms overlooking the Atlantic from a cliff-top location on the edge of Newquay. A kitchenette in every apartment means you can make your own meals if you choose, but the café and restaurant downstairs means there’s always an easier option. Plus there’s the pool, the gardens, kids’ play areas, padel tennis court and the partnership with the local surf school. Whatever you’re looking for from your holiday in Cornwall, you are likely to find it right here.

This completely refurbished space by the sea was previously the super-family-friendly Sands Resort Hotel and is still just as welcoming to people with kids – and those with dogs as well. The self-catering facilities and large gardens are a bonus for both types of guest. Most apartments are studio style but the large ones actually offer a separate bunk bedroom for kids. There are also two- and three-bedroom apartments for families or groups of four or six to spread out in, including accessible options. All are decorated in vibrant block colours and look fresh, modern and clean – they have superfast WiFi and Smart TVs. There's an indoor and outdoor pool, and indoor and outdoor play areas for children too. The excellent location of course has never changed and never will.

SeaSpace really feels like a hotel that’s tuned in to today’s tastes, indeed it' is a little bit different from other seaside hotels, with a 'community first' approach that's designed to to appeal to residents and locals alike. It has a busy schedule of workshops, exhibitions, live music, film viewings and suchlike that can be enjoyed by both groups, and an overall vibe that's welcoming, contemporary and inclusive.

Porth Beach is a five-minute walk downhill from here and sits on the north edge of Newquay. Watergate Bay is a 30-minute walk and the best place to catch the surf. And if you’re not confident with that yet, sign up for those surf lessons you’ve been meaning to have – this place makes it easy. In fact, everything is easy here. You can have an early breakfast for the kids in your room and a leisurely coffee in the café. Once you’re ready to get going, you can drive 10-minutes into Newquay town or hit the road in the other direction for a day-trip to Padstow or the Eden Project, both about half an hour away. And when you get back it’s your choice – board games and a relaxed dinner in your room or the restaurant downstairs.

Getting There

From the A30 head towards Newquay on the A39. After just over a mile, at the Halloon Roundabout, take the second exit signposted towards Newquay to join the A392. After a four further miles, at the roundabout, take the second exit on to the B3276 Porth Road. SeaSpace is on the right after about a mile.

Lovely relaxing break

We’ve just come back from a night at the Sands Resort and wished we'd stayed longer. We had a sea view superior room which had a very nice lounge area for relaxing before getting into the very large bed. Breakfast and evening meal was very nice. All the staff we encountered at reception and dining areas were very friendly and helpful. Nice cliff walk just across the road from the hotel and about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. Would definitely like to stay here again.

Perfect family break

Spent a long weekend at Sands with my wife, 3-year-old daughter and spaniel. Our Country View Suite with balcony was the perfect size for us all and the facilities on site for smaller children (soft play, swimming pool, maze and play park) were excellent. The staff were all incredibly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant twice and both times the food was delicious. Our spaniel was equally well cared for with towels at the door to dry his feet and biscuits in the bar. Would highly recommend for families and will stay again
