The Hoste almost single-handedly turned the postcard-pretty village of Burnham Market into one of the hottest tourist spots and most coveted residences in Norfolk – second-home owners have now snaffled up over half the village, and a well-heeled crew they are too. But the hotel, under new ownership for the last couple of years, deserves every ounce of its success, as not only is it a terrific place to stay but the food at Restaurant at The Hoste is outstanding too. The previous owners decked out the whole place in a crazy mix of styles, and although the new incumbents have toned everything down a bit, it retains an appealingly studied quirkiness in all the public areas. Most of all it's a supremely comfortable and even homely place to stay, right in the centre of the village it to some extent dominates with a couple of annexes, Vine House, just across the green, and another, Railway House, the former railway station.  It's nicest to be in the original hotel but wherever you end up guest rooms are well-equipped, spacious and with large bathrooms; all are different, though they all have the sort of Baroque Contemporary style that characterises the hotel throughout. Vine and Railway House rooms are a bit simpler and the ones in Railway House cheaper. All in all staying at The Hoste is a bit of a treat, but an extremely worthwhile one.

Doubles and twins in the main hotel and Vine House start at around £1705, although there are a couple of small doubles that are cheaper; Railway House rooms start at around £135.

Stylish & Welcoming!

The Hoste is a 4 star boutique hotel located in one of Norfolk's prettiest villages, Burnham Market, just a few miles away from the beautiful North Norfolk coast. Stylish and welcoming and serving delicious seasonal, locally-sourced food with an extensive wine cellar, the restaurant is open to non-residents.

a much loved favourite

We go back here at least once a year. It is well situated in a vibrant village with very good amenities (shops, cash points, restaurants, take outs, butchers, bakers, no candle stick makers, but a shop with a surprising range of hats and wellies!).

The Hoste has a reliable restaurant - nothing too fancy just food we like to eat. Service is usually good if sometimes slow when busy. Watch out for the wine list though - can be pricey. Good desserts.

The rooms are a high standard and all different.Ask what is available and say if you have a preference. The ones in the old building above the restaurant are a bit noisy if you are early to bed. The hotel is dog friendly and has several rooms with small terraces.

We generally go for one of their cottages though. Same price as a double room in the hotel but you get three en suites. Much better if you have dogs as the all have gardens. Decor is the same standard as the hotel and we find them very comfortable. Can also save you a bit as there is a fully equipped kitchen so easy to have the odd meal in or take out. Easier parking at the cottages than the hotel as well.

Main gripes - car parking at the Hoste, price of drinks, not the cheapest.

Good things - comfort, atmosphere, good food, very well placed mid way along the north Norfolk coast

Top tips: try the cottages, ask the staff - they try to help

Overall -we always recommend the Hoste.
