Great food and accommodation at this beautifully located North Norfolk Coast country inn

Just a mile from Hunstanton and the North Norfolk Coast, the Gin Trap Inn advertises itself as providing modern British food in a 17th-century inn – words to quicken the pulse of any pub lover, and we are happy to say that they deliver on both counts. Based in the village of Ringstead, this ancient inn is nowadays all about making the most of Norfolk’s bounty to create great seasonal food. Not only that, it also has 13 very comfortable bedrooms for overnight stays, and a couple of 2-bedroom cottages for those who prefer to self-cater.

First the food, which is high-end and locally sourced – oysters harvested by a local fisherman, halibut with brown shrimp, local quail, pork and beef. They also offer a simpler and cheaper bar menu in what is about as pubby a pub environment as you’ll find. The rooms (and 2 split-level suites) are cosy and comfy, each one different in size and shape but all furnished with a mixture of antiques that give them real character while not dispensing with modern comforts. They all come with WiFi, Smart TVs, luxury linen and spacious en-suite bathrooms with robes and toiletries. They also have tea- and coffee-making facilities (Brew Tea and Norfolk coffee for the cafetiere) and provide homemade cake and biscuits, fresh cold milk, and still and sparkling mineral water – all complimentary. Oh, and all guests receive a free Gin Trap gin and tonic! The 2 cottages are similarly well-appointed, with two double bedrooms each and lots of living space, including a contemporary fitted kitchen. And, if you’re feeling lazy, you can eat at the pub – breakfast is included in rates!

Dogs are welcome in most of the rooms, and you will want to get out and explore. The pub is well positioned for exploring the nature reserves at Snettisham and Titchwell, Holkham Beach and multiple other coastal attractions. You’re also never far from some superb country walks, including a 7-mile loop you can do from the doorstep of the pub.
