The Chequers sits on the High Street in Thornham, close to the North Norfolk Coast. It began a new chapter in 2024 with Joe, Emma, and their dog Rudy at the helm, bringing a fresh perspective to a classic Chestnut pub. It’s a place where tradition meets something a little unexpected – good food, great company, and a proper pour at the heart of it all. The menu is all about honest, down-to-earth dishes that bring people together, with the pie taking centre stage – because what’s a pub without a proper pie?

Guest-room wise, there are 11 in total: pick from Snug, Humble, Roomy, or Generous – some are above the pub and others in the cottage next door. They've added all the essentials you’ll need for a comfortable stay, with thoughtful touches to help you settle in. Expect comfy beds, large windows, and a warm welcome that feels like staying with friends.

Breakfast is easy-going, brunch is casual, and hearty favourites for lunch and dinner keep things simple yet satisfying. And of course, furry friends are always part of the family – the pub dog, Rudy, wouldn’t have it any other way. With that in mind, they provide snacks and water bowls, and a bed, bowl, and ball to take home for overnight guests. Whether you’re there for a weekend getaway or just passing through for a pint and a bite to eat, they’ve kept things homely and fuss-free.

Out and about, there's plenty to do, from wild swimming and paddleboarding in the North Norfolk Sea to walking a section of the Pier to Pier route. It's worth noting that another of Chestnut's properties – The Lifeboat Inn – is just up the road, if you fancy a change of scenery.
