No2 North Norfolk

The quiet road between the Norfolk villages of Ringstead and Sedgeford cuts through the type of flat farm fields the county is famous for. Midway along, a tiny cluster of houses reveal themselves with No2 North Norfolk among them. One of a neat terrace of four red-brick cottages, you’ll recognise it by the starfish which hangs on the door. It hints at what you’ll find inside this two-bedroom holiday home, which is just three miles from the sea at Hunstanton.

The terrace is known as New England Cottages and downstairs in the open-plan living space there’s an aesthetic which matches the name. It’s light and airy thanks to bi-folding doors, white walls and natural materials from the bamboo dining chairs to the shells which decorate the dresser. But the neutrals are livened by colour and a country appeal from the Joules sofas which face off by the log-burner – one a tweedy green, one a hot pink, both of which you’ll want to take home.

There’s a Smart TV, a Bose sound system and wifi that defies the rural location. In the galley kitchen the mod cons continue with a Nespresso coffee machine, a waffle iron and even an ice cream maker on top of what you’d usually expect. A carpeted stairway with a rope-bannister continues the seaside theme as you head to the first floor. There’s a master bedroom and a good-sized twin where shells and seascapes still feature in rooms that are softened by carpeted floors and quality bed linen. The family bathroom is shared between them and features a roll-top bath and a separate walk-in shower.

Coffee table books, board games and a small, private garden with barbecue, swings and sunset views mean you could have a wonderful holiday right here but the inspiration behind No2 North Norfolk is all from its location. It’s situated on the edge of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, at the very top of East Anglia offering a taste of both coast and country. You can walk in 45 minutes across the fields to the much-lauded Gin Trap Inn and drive in 10 minutes to the nearest beaches: Hunstanton for seaside fun and Holme Dunes for sandy expanses. The Sandringham Estate is just seven miles away and most of the other places that you might want to visit in North Norfolk are easily reached from here.
