- 5 Luxury Lodges with Hot Tubs
- Luxury Glamping
Set amid 15 acres of prime Nottinghamshire countryside, in the small village of Stanton-on-the-Wolds, this calls itself a glamping site, but it’s questionable whether these five superbly endowed safari lodges are really glamping at all. Built pretty much with his own bare hands by the affable owner Peter Hinchley, in the middle of a young forest of oaks and beeches planted by his father, these timber-framed lodges really do take things to a new level, providing all the comforts of a fully-fledged self-catering cottage but retaining a close contact with nature that only a holiday under canvas can really provide.
That in mind, Peter's lodges have rustic bamboo roofs beneath canvas tents, sheltering cosy, well-insulated living areas with wood-burners, comfy chairs and dining tables, and well-equipped kitchens with an oven, a hob and fridge (in which you’ll find a bottle of bubbly to greet you on arrival). There are two compact bedrooms, each of which can comfortably sleep two adults, a proper family bathroom with a shower and toilet, and a mezzanine level where two small children can sleep and see it as an adventure at the same time!
The lodges have underfloor heating throughout, and the kitchen even has a dishwasher, leaving you plenty of time to bask in your hot tub on the verandah and enjoy the views over the nearby lake. There’s a Smart TV, fast wifi and games and books for rainy days, and each lodge has its own own private firepit area, reachable by way of a a wooden walkway. Three of the lodges are also dog friendly.
Peter runs the site with his wife Holly and two daughters Meg and Emily, and they're all a mine of information on things to do in the local area. A footpath from the site leads to Leicestershire’s gorgeous and relatively unknown Vale of Belvoir, over towards Melton Mowbray, plus there’s a country park in nearby Cotgrave, from where you can follow the canal path to Nottingham, eight miles away, if you tire of life in the country. Not that it’s likely: you'll be so comfortable in your lodge you may not want to go anywhere. Peter and the family are even talking about adding a few treehouses over the next year or so. Long may they build and prosper!
