Idyllic and well appointed holiday cottage for walkers in the heart of Snowdonia.

Owned by the same people who run the lovely Gwern Gof Isaf farm campsite in the heart of Snowdonia, this is a fabulous holiday cottage for walkers and outdoor types, nestled in the Ogwen valley and giving easy access to the majestic mountains of Capel Curig and Tryfan that surround – slopes that were famously the training-ground of member of the 1953 Everest expedition.

The cottage is a decent-sized place, so great for families or groups of friends, with five bedrooms – two doubles, three singles – and two bathrooms, a nicely furnished sitting room and a dining room with large table fashioned out of the old dairy. Everything is provided, including towels and bed linen, and there's wifi, a wood-burning stove, central heating throughout and a well-equipped if smallish kitchen. They also have a washing machine, a couple of TVs, a DVD player and a games room for rainy days – not that unusual in this part of the world.

It's all beautifully done out, with lovely, tastefully chosen furniture, and it really couldn't be cosier, but the real attraction is its position, with Capel Curig nearby and the Glyder Ridge and Carneddau mountain ranges offering scenic climbs – that is, if you can't make it to Snowdon itself (locally Yr Wyddfa), a short drive away. Less energetic folk can make do with the lovely but less ambitious walk along the old road between Capel Curig and Bethesda, or just a trip on the fantastic Snowdon Mountain Railway.
