With Bert's Kitchen Garden, Ali and Ian Paice have transformed an old coastal farm into a thriving back-to-nature campsite and eco-retreat on the magical LLŷn Peninsula. Book in at the Piggery, and lucky couples get to share the share the stunning location and facilities, while enjoying the more upscale comforts of a converted 18th-century building once devoted to pig-rearing that has been lovingly restored into a comfortable bolthole for two. It retains the ethos that underpins the whole site – you're here because you're looking for peace and quiet in a quite extraordinary natural landscape. The wildflower meadows of the campsite sit under the coastal hills of Yr Eifl, there's a shingle beach below the site and another sandy beach five minutes' walk away.

Within the old stone walls of the Piggery, there's a handsome bedroom with a king-sized bed – you can add a cot for a child too – and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. Toiletries are natural and organic, courtesy of Farmers' Welsh, an old lavender farm based on the other side of Snowdonia. There's also a wood-burning stove, and tea- and coffee-making facilities and small fridge inside the Piggery, but no kitchen (and no TV either, though there is wifi). Attached is a small and gorgeous covered private courtyard, with tables, chairs, firepit and barbecue-grill – less than a minute's walk away you can use the campsite pantry, where there's a washing-up area and a fridge-freezer.

For breakfast, brunch, cakes, ice cream, drinks and dinner, there's an on-site restaurant and bar open from end of April to September – it's small but popular so you'll want to book for evening meals. The sleepy old quarry village of Trefor is just a few minutes' walk away, where's a local shop, and a friendly community 'club' open a few nights a week where you can get a pint and a glass of wine. Otherwise it's ten miles and twenty minutes' drive across the peninsula to Pwllheli for supermarkets, pubs and restaurants.

For the rest of the time, it's all about rest and relaxtion at Bert's. You're only a short walk from the beach – paddleboards and kayaks are available to hire – or it's a stroll through green fields for views over the rugged coastline. Or maybe take a yoga class in the meadow? You'll be a couple of contented pigs, that's for sure, after a few days in the Piggery.
