It was the sea views that did it for Helen Cobb and her family when they first visited this exquisitely situated Victorian house, perched on the clifftop in the lively seaside town of Mundesley, Norfolk. It's the sort of place that doesn't come up for sale very often, so they jumped at the chance when it did, turning it into one of the most desirable holiday homes you'll ever come across. The name suggested itself – the views are spectacular – but the interiors too also are more than a match for the dramatic location. Once here, you may never want to leave.
The house has 8 bedrooms across three floors, and is a perfect venue for a family gathering or just a convivial holiday get-together for a group of friends. The living spaces are large and lavish, and no expense has been spared in kitting out the house for guests, which has been done with taste and a large dash of contemporary style. The furniture has been carefully chosen for both comfort and there's a light, soothing colour palette that perfectly reflects the seaside location and panoramic vistas.
Seven of the 8 bedrooms are on the upper floors, most impressive of which is the master suite which has an emperor-size bed and a bath tub by the window plus an en-suite bathroom. Six further bedrooms have either king-size or twin beds (one also has bunk beds); 4 share one of two family bathrooms, while the top-floor room also has an en-suite bathroom . There's also a ground-floor bedroom, handy for anyone with limited mobility, which comes complete with a four-poster bed, a sofa bed, and an en-suite wet room.
As well as two large living rooms, one with a wood burner and Smart TV, there are two huge kitchens, which between them have just about every amenity going– including a double American-style fridge-freezer, built-in coffee machine, boiling water tap, wine fridge, wood-burner and seating for up to 22 people - plus a washing machine and tumble dryer in the nearby utility room. The bluetooth sound system seamlessly runs throughout the ground floor, and if the weather plays ball, you might find yourself spending a great deal of time outdoors on the terrace, where there is dining space for up to 30, together with a barbecue and pizza oven.
To complete the illusion that you might just have left Norfolk and been transported to Ibiza or San Tropez, there is also an outdoor heated swimming pool, a hot tub and a vast terrace from which you can take in those magnificent sea views. Later in the day, you can gather around the fire pit to watch the sunset or nip inside for a game of pool in the funkily decorated games room.
As for Mundesley, it's is a lovely spot, an unpretentious seaside town with a large sandy beach and a laid-back and welcoming vibe: perfect for families and, well, just about anyone really! A path leads form the garden gate down to the beach, and should you be able to tear yourself away from the house, you're close to lots of other nice places to visit up and down the coast – Cromer and Overstrand to the north, Happisburgh (with its lighthouse) and Horsey (with its seals) to the south. Inland too you're a short drive form various attractions: the magnificent gardens at East Ruston are just ten minutes' away, and beyond you can explore the watery mysteries and unique wildlife of The Broads National Park.
