This corner of north Derbyshire can be overlooked, and that’s a shame because you’d be missing a trick. When you open the gate latch to the wonderfully mature gardens at the front of these two old stone cottages, you just know you’ve landed somewhere special. Inside, there's a winning mix of contemporary and vintage throughout. Bedrooms are immaculate and cosy – there’s an antique brass bed in one, an oak sleigh bed in another – all have top-notch linen and spotless bathrooms. Kick back in front of open fires in the winter or seek out quiet corners in the garden. The sleek kitchens have every gismo you need. You’re nicely placed here for great walks from the door (Edale is the start of the Pennine Way) or jump in the car for days out at Chatsworth House, Haddon and Hardwick Halls or a shopping spree in Bakewell – don't forget the legendary market on Mondays!
