Sitting in a prime location in the heart of Soho, this 33-bed boutique spot has a long history. Rewind to 1867: the property originally housed a restaurant opened by August Kettner – rumour has it he was chef to Napoleon III – and was one of the first eateries in the capital to serve French cuisine. Once known for entertaining the likes of Agatha Christie, Oscar Wilde and Sir Winston Churchill, the building has entered a new phase under the hands of Soho House.

Each characterful room – whether it be one of the Tiny (17sq m) offerings or their Jacobean Suite (80sq m) – is decked out with vintage furniture and jazzy wallpaper lines the walls. Sink into Egyptian cotton sheets and luxuriate under rainforest showers – plus some bedrooms have roll top baths and a sitting area. Food-wise, a Continental menu remains, using locally sourced ingredients and featuring the likes of Bayonne ham and Comte croquettes with saffron aioli, beef bourguignon and Lake District farmers’ fillet steak with fries and sauce au poivre. Fancy a pre- or post-dinner drink? Head to the piano bar and listen to live music whilst supping on a G+T. Bubbly more your thing? The Champagne Bar is the place for you. Out and about there's tons of things to do right on the doorstep, ranging from shopping in the West End or wandering though Hyde Park to catching a show.
