Luxury cabins in a glorious Peak District location
With a stunning location on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District, halfway between Matlock and Ashbourne, Hoe Grange Holidays is an easy place to like. A working farm run by David and Felicity Brown, it's close to some of the best walking and biking the Midlands has to offer and has a wide range of accommodation that would suit just about anyone, from self-catering log cabins to luxury glamping pods and a cosy gypsy caravan for two. It is not only dog-friendly, but horse-friendly too, and has also – quite rightly – won awards for the accessibility of its accommodation, which is second to none. Choose from a hot tub on your decking or a wood-fired hot tub in a secluded area, available to guests as an extra.
The four log cabins are like self-catering cottages basically, which really make the most of the Great Outdoors and the superb rural location. Three of the cabins sleep 4 while the other sleeps 6, and they all have fully-equipped kitchens with dishwasher and microwave, a minimum of two bedrooms and two bathrooms, spacious living areas that open onto decks with outdoor furniture and barbecue. They're all heated by an eco-friendly ground source heat pump, and all of them welcome dogs. Welcome packs come with freshly laid eggs and other basics, plus there is a small shop on the farm that sells most of the other things you might need, including locally sourced produce. Also, bear in mind that 3 of the 4 cabins are wheelchair-friendly, with easy ramp access, wide doorways, grab rails, wet rooms, and over 40 pieces of additional accessibility equipment you can add to your booking. You can also charge your electric car at one of two 22kwh chargers.
You could spend many a happy day pootling around the 250-acre farm, with the odd circular stroll and regular visits to the dogs, goats and other animals, but it would be a shame not to come and explore a little further. The farm has its own stables and plenty of grazing and they positively encourage you to bring your own horse if you have one. With or without a horse, there is a choice of footpaths and bridleways to explore, the closest of which is the High Peak Trail, which runs just a field away from the accommodation. There are also a couple of bikes for guests' use, and a couple of e-bikes for hire. By car, you can easily reach some of the Peak District National Park's most iconic attractions – the amiable little towns of Ashbourne and Bakewell; Dovedale and its gorge; and Tissington and its trail, which follows a disused rail line from Buxton to Ashbourne.
