Lyminster in West Sussex was once home to the 'Knuckerhole', a bottomless pit where a fearsome dragon lived. Fret not, it was slain many centuries ago, and these days, the village is as peaceful as can be, and an excellent spot from which to discover the surrounding countryside and coastline. Accommodation-wise, Grooms Cottage is a one-bedroom studio that's part of The Butler Collection, which also offers a concierge service to enhance your holiday, be it restaurant reservations, a private chef, a mixologist, or a bespoke activity.
Set in the grounds of the owners’ house, the thoughtfully designed property is compact but has everything you need, including a king-size bed and a kitchenette with a mini stove, microwave, toaster and kettle, plus seating and a dining table. You'll also find a modern bathroom with a shower, and outside, a patio with seating. Cosy yet uncluttered, the light and airy open-plan space is the ideal West Sussex base.
You'll no doubt want to get out and about, whether it's visiting nearby historic Arundel or checking out the beaches at Littlehampton – both less than a 10-minute drive away. You're also well-placed to hike and cycle the South Downs Way. Slightly further afield, The Witterings and Brighton are reachable within three-quarters of an hour.
If Grooms Cottage is unavailable or you're travelling with more people, there are a couple of two-bedroom cottages on-site: Courtyard and Coach House. You can rent all three together (up to 10 people) as Lyminster Court Cottages.
