Part of Butcombe Pubs & Inns' Boutique collection, rated 4* by the AA, and one of The Times' best new hotels in the UK for 2026, the 300-year-old property overlooks the rolling South Downs National Park and has been carefully renovated while retaining character – think exposed brick walls and wood-burning stoves alongside an open kitchen and Arts and Crafts-inspired décor.
Bedroom-wise, opt for the historic pub or peaceful annexe – each has its own style. Options range from Snug to Superior. Choose the latter and enjoy a roll-top bath in the room itself, plus an en-suite with a shower and local Bramley toiletries. Some ground-floor rooms with walk-in showers are available, and others are dog-friendly.
When it comes to food, head to the spacious dining area complete with big windows for admiring the scenic outlooks, and choose from dishes such as garlic prawns, vegetable pakora with crispy chilli oil, Brixham market fish of the day, or more traditional fare like the 'Brewery burger'. Come Sunday, there's a selection of hearty roasts. On warm days, it's all about having a drink and a bite to eat in the outdoor garden.
