The Barrel House café-bar-restaurant-venue is a mini cultural centre in the heart of Totnes. Owners Suzie and Charlie have run the historic building as a café for 14 years, and as a venue for the past six years. Proper fair-trade coffee, paninis and takeaways are the orders of the day, while by night the ballroom upstairs becomes a relaxed yet buzzy venue, hosting bands, DJs, cabaret, film shows and debates throughout the week. At around a fiver maximum for performances and not much more for a good meal, there’s no reason not to visit this 92-year-old cool hangout.
