The Fuzzy Duck is a wonderful regeneration story – with all creature comforts attached. Back in 2013 Tania Fossey rescued her local pub in the appealing hamlet of Armscote in Shakespeare country near Stratford-upon-Avon and transformed it into an elegant venue. With her brother, Adrian Slater, she owns and runs the soap and bath product company Baylis & Harding, and her plan was to apply a similar ethos of affordable luxury to the pub. What a huge success the revival has been. Step through the door of this brick-built pub and you’re in a slick, relaxing space clad in warming greys, with a welcoming bar and fireplaces. There’s a large and sunny extension with bold art at the back and an ample garden featuring stylish outdoor furniture in summer. Food is a big forte of the pub; the seasonal menu is mainly based on local ingredients and offers delights such as slow-cooked chicken breast with truffle and parmesan fries, and wild mushroom and chive risotto. Upstairs are four sophisticated bedrooms named after ducks, all with big beds, fine linen - and a host of Baylis & Harding toiletries of course.
