Portobello House Hotel
If you want to stay in Notting Hill, then this boutique hotel could be right up your street. Nicely situated close to Ladbroke Grove tube station, Portobello House is a proper urban bolthole, with a funky bistro-cum-restaurant downstairs and 12 guest rooms on the floors above, which range from modern decor 'Cosy' affairs, through 'Club' and 'Superior' up to the top-of-the-range ' Percy room with its four-poster bed. All rooms have free wifi, flatscreen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, comfy beds with Egyptian cotton sheets (king-size in the more expensive, larger rooms) and posh toiletries. The entrance door is surprisingly discreet, the odd celebrity has been spotted leaving, but the welcome is warm and service excellent. There's a complementary breakfast too, including fruit muffins coffee and yogurt and the restaurant downstairs is on hand for lunch and dinner. A decent and much more characterful central London alternative to the chains, and one of the latest in a very welcome London trend in comfy, boutiquey rooms appearing above funky restaurants.
PriceDouble rooms start from £100 a night and rise to about £220 a night for the Percy room, depending on season.
